Rincon Ridge Drive

This Santa Rosa landscape design by Olga Stritar reimagines the property with a modern Mediterranean aesthetic that blends beauty, resilience, and functionality. The project was designed to increase property value while creating a safer and more visually engaging outdoor environment.

The front yard introduces a drought-tolerant planting palette that softens the architectural lines of the home while enhancing curb appeal. A cypress hedge screens the office from street view, forming a green backdrop for layered ornamental grasses, flowering perennials, and sculptural shrubs.

On the sloped sides of the house, terraced planting areas with fire-safe groundcovers help slow potential wildfire spread while stabilizing the hillside. In the backyard, the landscape creates a welcoming setting for entertaining, with open spaces and thoughtful planting that connect the garden to the surrounding natural environment.

The result is a landscape that balances modern design, environmental responsibility, and everyday livability—an ideal outdoor retreat for Sonoma County living.

The Outcome

The landscape was reimagined with a modern Mediterranean aesthetic that balances beauty, resilience, and functionality. A carefully selected palette of drought-tolerant plants softens the hardscape elements, creating a layered and visually dynamic garden that thrives in the Sonoma County climate.

In the front yard, a cypress hedge screens the office from the street, forming a structured green backdrop for a rich composition of ornamental grasses, sculptural shrubs, and blooming perennials. This layered planting design brings movement, texture, and seasonal color, resulting in a welcoming and refreshed streetscape.

On both sides of the home, the sloped areas were terraced to slow potential fire spread while stabilizing the hillside. These terraces are planted with fire-resilient groundcovers that provide visual continuity while enhancing safety.

At the rear of the property, the wildland edge is thoughtfully separated from the home by a combination of lawn and a rock garden. This transition zone creates defensible space while maintaining a natural connection to the surrounding landscape.

The result is a refined Santa Rosa garden that combines modern Mediterranean style, drought-tolerant planting, and fire-conscious design, delivering a landscape that is both visually striking and resilient.
