Do you have references?

Do you have a signature style?

I design custom outdoor living spaces that are highly personalized to your preferences - yet optimized for the California environment. Your landscape should extend and enhance your home’s architectural style, particularly in the case of a new build or after a major renovation. Previous clients have enjoyed designs such as California native, Mediterranean, Modern, Cottage, Traditional, and Japanese. When it comes to function, I am a Qualified Water Efficient Landscaper (QWEL), have created fire-resistant landscapes on properties decimated by wildfires, and have designed healing gardens for healthcare facilities. 

How long does a typical project take?

It depends on the needs of your project. For example, a small apartment patio might be completed within a week or two, while a comprehensive design for your property might take several weeks to 3 months.

How much do landscaping projects cost?

I design with your overall construction budget in mind. During the Conceptual Planning phase, I will work with you to understand the budget impacts of the design options we are considering so that you can make informed decisions. Commonly, landscape budget investment on a premium home is about 10% of the sale or build price of the house. 

How do you charge?

I charge a flat fee for the design. If you would like me to continue to manage the project after the design is complete, this will be at my hourly rate.  

As soon as the design phase is complete and the contractor begins construction, I can serve as your advocate and project manager. This encompasses tasks such as meeting with the contractor or gardener, buying plants, choosing furniture and garden ornaments, supervising planting, and evaluating maintenance.

What if I don’t like the design?

Your landscape design is created after I visit your property, interview you about your family’s needs, and consider the inspiration images you have given me. My initial design concept will include two or three options for your review, then I will draft a revised design based on your feedback. This is a collaborative process, and you have final approval.  

I already have a landscaping contractor lined up. Can you work with them?

To ensure the success of your landscaping project, I only work with contractors I know will provide the highest quality of service. Part of my job is to act as your advocate with the contractor. I will happily meet with your contractor to see if we will make a good team.

I don’t have a landscaping contractor. Can you recommend one?

To ensure the success of your landscaping project, I only work with contractors I know will provide the highest quality of service. I will recommend trustworthy general contractors in your area, as well as help you evaluate portfolios and bids. 

Do you hire the contractor or do I?

As the client, you will contract directly with all construction companies and other professionals associated with the job. My recommendations for contractors, subcontractors, engineers, surveyors, and consultants are for the convenience of the client. I work closely with these other professionals and act as your advocate at all times, but it is ultimately the contractor’s responsibility to provide timely and quality service. 

How are the plants purchased?

I choose the plants for you. I have access to the most reputable nurseries with the highest quality plants for your area. My horticultural training means I can pick the best of the bunch! At delivery, I inspect the plants for form and health. Plants are guaranteed for 1 year* with average care if I am involved in a post-management program. 

Is your job done once the design phase is complete?

I am with you from the beginning to the end of your landscaping project - first as your designer, then as your advocate. This is how I can ensure your yard and outdoor living spaces are constructed and installed with excellence.
