Inspiration + Goal
This design was ordered by a construction company who wanted to raise the value of the property. They wanted an all fire-safe yard, a low water-use front yard, and a backyard fit for entertaining. We blocked the view from the street to the office, created curb appeal, and added a drought-tolerant front yard.
The Outcome
We created a modern, Mediterranean-looking design. All plants are drought-tolerant and soften the hardscape. The office is screened by the cypress hedge, creating a nice background for the composition of mixed grasses, bushes, and blooming perennials that resulted in a fresh looking front yard. To slow down a potential fire we divided the slope on both sides of the house with the terraces and covered them with safe selections of ground-cover plants. Wild land area on the back of the house is separated from the house thanks to the lawn and rock garden, discouraging a potential fire from spreading toward the house.
